ARI encourages NSW aquatic facilities to sign-up for Active Ageing Program grants
In collaboration with NSW Health, the Aquatic and Recreation Institute (ARI) has announced the latest round of funding for its Active Ageing Program.
The program allows facilities to apply to receive $8,000 in funding to contribute the start up and running costs of over 50s classes.
The funding, the largest program delivery offered to date, will be directed to 23 sites from around NSW with a particular focus on CALD (Cultural & Linguistic Diverse) Populations and Indigenous Communities.
A Pilot Active Ageing Program involving 13 site in 2013/14 achieved significant results, including:
• Over the 12 month period there was a total of 41,848 participant visits to the 13 sites.
• Of the 41,848 visits recorded, there was a total of new visits totalling 230 (or approximately 18%).
• There was an average of 29 participants per class across all 13 sites.
• A total of 46 Instructors were trained in over 50s exercise instruction across the 13 sites - categorised by either up-skilling qualifications to over 50s specific training or completion of a relevant accredited course.
• Of the 41,848 participants in total, 52 were referred to their GP as a result of the Exercise pre-screening for further consultation and clearance to resume exercise.
Expressions of interest for the current round of funding must be submitted by Friday 5th August 2016.
The Program is about to undergo a re-branding and will aim to launch for commencement in September 2016.
