Successful grant applicants announced for 2018 International Day of People with Disability
More than 50 events and activities across Western Australia have been supported by the State Government with grants of up to $1,000.
The United Nations-sanctioned International Day of People with Disability is held on 3rd December each year. The theme for 2018 International Day of People with Disability is 'empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality'.
The 50 State Government-funded events will be staged over the week commencing December 3, from Denmark and Albany in the south to Karratha and Derby in the north.
Activities range from free performances, exhibitions and community stalls to film screenings and sporting events - including one for surfers with disability.
"The UN International Day of People with Disability celebrates the achievements and contributions of people with disability, and is a valuable opportunity to strengthen awareness of the importance of access and inclusion in our community,” said Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson.
"The State Government is proud to support so many initiatives and events that encourage all Western Australians to enhance their understanding of what it means for a community to be truly inclusive.
"Western Australia has outstanding organisations working in the disability sector to improve people's lives and the Government is proud to support them in their work.
"The International Day of People with Disability is an opportunity to break down barriers, celebrate abilities and work towards increasing inclusiveness and equality."
