New grandstand seating adds colour to the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre

The Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre’s western grandstand has a fresh new look, with all 2,172 chairs having recently been replaced with seats in the Olympic colours.

Over 5,000 people put made use of the new seats during the 2015 NSW Country Championships last weekend (4th and 5th July), as the venue was showcased to swim clubs in regional country regions.

Swim club fans in Sydney are currently test the new grandstand as the former Olympic venue hosts the 2015 NSW Metropolitan Short Course Championships.

Each bay of the grandstand has a different colour of the Olympic rings (blue, yellow, black, green and red) to honour the Olympic history of the venue and also provide a benefit to school carnivals so students can sit in their school colours.

The Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic centre hosted 77 school swimming carnivals, and 61 club/district/state and national events in the past financial year.

The replacement project was timed to cause minimal disruption for visitors, occurring after the swimming carnival season and not interrupting any major events.

Sydney Olympic Park Authority, manager of the Aquatic Centre, undertook the replacement project as part of its ongoing maintenance of the facility so that it remains a world-class venue.

Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary.
