Football Federation Australia to review banned fans policy

Recently appointed Football Federation Australia (FFA) Chairman Steven Lowy has promised to review the A-League's banned fans policy over the summer.

Talking to media about the policy, which has led to walk-outs and fan protests at A-League games, Lowy, appealed for calm among fans.

Lowy stated “getting angry and frustrated isn't getting us anywhere”, adding “we absolutely stand with the fans of football."

Lowy differentiated between so called ‘troublemaker’ and the vast majority of supporters, saying he intended to keep a hard line on fans who chose to break the law.

He added “we stand with the vast majority of fans that love the game.

"We don't want people with flares. We don't want anti-social behaviour.

"We won't take a backwards step in rooting out the culprits."

Lowy said he had met with NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione, the SCG Trust and the Chairmen of A-League clubs to help understand and defuse the issue.

FFA chief executive David Gallop, who joined Lowy at the media conference in Sydney, has also admitted he "got it wrong" when he failed to come out and dismiss The Sunday Telegraph report which named the 198 banned fans from A-League matches.

Lowy (pictured above) is presenting a proposal to review the banned fans policy to the FFA board, with plans to finalise a new policy by the next board meeting in February.
