Belgravia Leisure to manage new Gympie Aquatic Recreation Centre
Facility manager Belgravia Leisure has been contracted to manage Gympie Regional Council’s regional pools and the soon-to-open $22.2 million Gympie Aquatic Recreation Centre (ARC).
Following a successful tender, the Melbourne-based business was awarded the contract for management and operation of the region’s pools and its new aquatic and recreation centre for a five year term.
Announcing the appointment, the Gympie’s Tourism, Sport and Recreation Portfolio Councillor James Cochrane advised “Belgravia Leisure has extensive operations experience across Australia and New Zealand enabling the company the capacity and capability to deliver a fantastic service, delivering excellent community outcomes, not only in providing exceptional aquatic facilities but in employing and professionally developing local residents in a broad array of positions.
“Council is very pleased to announce this appointment and are confident Belgravia Leisure has the expertise to see these four leisure sites thrive and furthering our vision as the Gympie region being the natural choice to live, work and play.
“The development and management of the Gympie ARC and ongoing development and operation of the regional pools at Goomeri, Tin Can Bay and Kandanga represent significant capital and operational investment from Council. Comprehensive and effective management arrangements are critical to protecting these important assets and meeting the expectations of both Council and the community.”
In managing these facilities, Belgravia will be expected to show an upward trend in visitation to the Gympie ARC, provide equitable access to the aquatic facilities, provide value for money, reflect aquatic recreation trends, comply with any relevant legislation and ensure the premises are safe, comfortable, enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing at all times.
Belgravia Leisure will receive income to manage the facility from entrance fees, classes and other programs, proceeds from the management and operations of the café, merchandise sales and any subsidy provided by Council. It will also be responsible for all expenses incurred in operating and maintaining the facilities including, staffing, electricity, marketing, maintenance, operations and security, while Council will bear the costs of sewerage and depreciation.
The Council will also set standard maximum entrance fees and minimum opening times on an annual basis following a recommendation from the operator.
While Belgravia Leisure has commenced its operations of the three regional pools following their reopening for the summer season, the Gympie ARC is on track to open in early 2017.
Designed by Queensland architects Liquid Blu A+R, the facility will include a 50 metre outdoor regional competition pool, a 25 metre heated indoor pool, a leisure pool/splash pad, a children’s activity zone with tipping bucket, and dual water slides
For swimming competitions, the 50 metre pool will be flanked by 600 spectator seats while the venue will feature a range of energy efficient solutions in its pumping, filtration and heating systems, as well as LED lighting.
