Belgravia Centres Bounce Back from Summer Floods

Belgravia Leisure has reported on how several of its managed centres have recovered from Australia's summer floods.

In a statement it reported that "on Tuesday 11th January when the severe weather lashed Queensland's South East, one of the worst hit areas was the Somerset Region, where Belgravia Leisure operate three aquatic centres and two sports stadiums.

"Opened only in December 2010, the Fernvale Indoor Sports Centre was hit hard with most of the flooring and equipment destroyed, but thanks to the hardworking efforts of the staff, local volunteers, a couple of Streets reps and the Council officers the Centre has been able to re-opened in a limited capacity. Some of the court competitions have started up and the health club is, once again, open for business. All of which provides welcome relief and distraction for a community that has gone through a horror summer season.

"In addition, Kilcoy Aquatic Centre, Toogoolawah & Lowood Pools (Somerset) and the Dayboro Pool (Moreton Bay) were affected by the floods and suffered damage and interruptions to business. Once again it was the teamwork of Belgravia staff and Council officers that got each centre back on line in the shortest possible timeframe.

"The Valley Pool on the fringe of the Brisbane CBD was also on high alert and had to be evacuated as the Brisbane River peaked. The iconic Brisbane Pool was five feet under in the 1974 floods and given the predictions the worst was feared.

"Fortunately the Brisbane River did not reach the height of ï¾74 and the facility was physically unaffected.

"Victoria also received enormous rainfall resulting in significant flooding to Central and North West regions. Belgravia managed centres in Swan Hill and Mildura watched flood peaks nervously and became quite adept at sand bagging in those weeks.

"Belgravia Leisure would like to recognise the extraordinary efforts of all our staff across South East Queensland and Northern Victoria throughout this difficult time and to our client Council's for their support throughout."
