Fitness First Wins International Eco Award
Fitness First Australia's ongoing commitment to reducing its carbon footprint has been recognised with the Oracle âEnable the Eco-Enterpriseâ award.
The international Oracle awards recognise corporations which have reduced their environmental impact while also maintaining business efficiencies. Fitness First is the first company in the Australian fitness industry to receive the award.
With 93 clubs around Australia and growing, Fitness First Australiaâs energy efficiency initiatives include the ongoing replacement of inefficient lighting with low voltage lights, the rollout of building management systems, Passive Infra Red (PIR) and photoelectric sensors to control lighting, air conditioning and other power usage. Fitness First also sources recycled flooring, paper and other products used in both the building of and supply to clubs to further reduce waste and lessen the companyâs carbon footprint.
Fitness First Australia Managing Director Peter Stirling Benson said the award was recognition of the companyâs efforts to date and also served as encouragement to continue finding ways to reduce environmental impact, stating âthe company has worked hard to reduce emissions and it was tremendous to have these ongoing efforts recognised by Oracle.
âWe have a firm commitment to the environment and to be the first major gym chain in Australia to be recognised with this award reflects the benchmarks we continue to set in this industry.?
Previous winners of this award include Kraft Foods, Deloitte Consulting, BT, Dell and Fiji Water.
The Oracle award for Fitness First Australia follows in the footsteps of Fitness First UK which was recently recognised by the Carbon Trust Standard for its efforts in executing a successful energy efficiency strategy.
