Coldplay adds more Australasian concerts as they smash ticket sales records

By Nigel Benton

Having announced a series of Australasian dates immediately after their pair of concerts at Perth’s Optus stadium on the 18th and 19th November, demand for tickets for Coldplay shows in Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney in October and November 2024 has seen new dates and the British supergroup having broken the record for the most concert tickets sold for a tour.

Announcing additional concerts in Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland, nine million tickets for the Music Of The Spheres world tour have now been sold.

Coldplay will now play four dates at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, five at Sydney’s Accor Stadium and three at Auckland’s Eden Park.

The band are also playing two sold out shows at Manila’s Philippine Arena and six shows at the Singapore in January next year and two shows at Bangkok’s Rajamangala National Stadium in February 204 before their tour heads to Europe.

Demand for the Coldplay shows was at a similar level to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour shows which went on sale in June with sales limited to four tickets per customer during the pre-sale period and a maximum of six tickets per customer for the general sale.

The band’s two shows in Perth, brokered by the Western Australian Government as exclusives for 2023 have been estimated to have attracted about 40,000 people from interstate.

Since the first Music Of The Spheres World Tour date in March 2022, the band have sold over nine million tickets - the most for any tour in history.

The band also recently issued an update on the tour’s sustainability initiatives, revealing that, on a show-by-show comparison, their current tour has so far produced 47% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour in 2016/17, and that more than seven million trees have already been planted around the world (with one being planted for each concert goer).

This month, Coldplay were named in TIME Magazine’s inaugural TIME100 Climate, a new list of the world's most influential leaders driving real climate action.

Coldplay will also release a limited number of Infinity Tickets for their Australian concerts “at a later date.”

These special seats are offered to make attendance accessible to fans battling cost-of-living financial pressures.
