Emerging Western Australian music act to support Coldplay at Optus Stadium

The Coldplay Rising Artist Competition run by promoter Live Nation, has opened for applications with the winning local Western Australian band given the opportunity to support Coldplay's 'Music of The Spheres' Perth performances later this year at Optus Stadium.

The WA Coldplay Rising Artist Competition will be exclusive to WA-based bands and can be entered by submitting an original track and live performance video plus a link to social media.

In addition to playing to an audience of more than 60,000 people per night at Optus Stadium and receiving a competitive performance fee from Live Nation, the Western Australian Government will provide the winner grant funding of up to $15,000 to support with activities including recording, marketing initiatives, touring or attendance at industry events.

The WA Government's Contemporary Music Fund support will allow the local artist/s to promote and develop their work in the context of this huge opportunity, which will see tens of thousands of visitors to WA's exclusive Coldplay performances.

The Contemporary Music Fund supports local musicians to capitalise on opportunities for the contemporary music sector and helps develop local, national and international audiences for WA bands.

WA Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman shared "this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get on stage with one of the world's biggest bands right here at home and show that huge audience what we're made of.

"I know the winners of this exciting competition will use this performance as a springboard to grow their profile and share our fantastic Western Australian music with more of the world."

WA Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti added "The Coldplay concerts in November are going to attract thousands of people into Western Australia and deliver a significant boost to local businesses and our hospitality industry.

"For one lucky band, the Coldplay concerts will also represent the opportunity of a lifetime to share a stage with the world's biggest band and perform in front of a packed out Optus Stadium."

Promoter Live Nation will run the WA Coldplay Rising Artist Competition, which will be exclusive to WA-based bands and can be entered through the website perth.coldplay.com by submitting an original track and live performance video plus a link to social media.
