Fitness First opens new Melbourne CBD club

Fitness First has opened its first major new club in Australia in over two years in the new Riverview House building at 276 Flinders Street in the Melbourne CBD.

The new flagship Fitness First Platinum club (Flinders St Platinum), Fitness First's largest in the Melbourne CBD, claims to offer "a bigger and better fitness experience" with "outdoor rooftop training, custom designed hot yoga studio and XT Strength Training (with Olympic lifting platforms)."

With an emphasis on offering functional training and a new style of fitness experience, the new club is being described as the most excting and innovative gym in Australia.

The club has also installed HumanSport 6 dual-function system equipment from Star Trac with the cable-based machines acting as 12 workout stations, utilising dual weight stacks, to provide a wide range of total body training options, including Base Strength, Core Stabilization and Dynamic Movement training.

The new $7 million club marks the chain's first Australian expansion since its high profile brand relaunch in January and is part of a major plan of investment in the chain’s clubs, with $40 million to be spent across capital expenditure, training and products in 2014.

Recently speaking about not only the financial investment but Fitness First’s plans to improve customer service, Managing Director Pete Manuel stated “a financial investment is just one part of our commitment to making changes for the best across Fitness First.

“We have also invested in raising the bar of customer service and ensuring that we have a team that offers both exceptional service and fitness expertise. We know that machines don’t motivate people – people motivate people, so we are making a significant investment in developing and training our team to ensure they can help our members to go further.”

“To be the best, to be a leader, you can’t stand still, you need to embrace change and keep challenging the status quo, and this is what we are doing at Fitness First.”
