Fitness First to open new Melbourne CBD club

Fitness First is to open its first major new club in Australia in over two years within a new development in the Melbourne CBD.

The new flagship club, set to be Fitness First's largest tenancy in the Melbourne CBD, will be in the new Riverview House building at 276 Flinders Street.

Fitness First has signed a 10 year lease for the 3,420 metre2 space which is spread over two floors.

The new $7 million club will mark the chain's first Australian expansion since shedding a quarter of its Australian clubs in the second half of 2012, as part of a global move to reduce the debt burden of its UK parent company.

However, with its debt crisis turned around and club performance improving, Fitness First is planning to relaunch its business in Australia in the near future.
