Fitness First gives teenagers free club access during the school holidays

Mindful that young women are twice as likely to be more sedentary than young men and the new Australian Government #girlsmakeyourmove campaign calling on young women to be more active, Fitness First is inviting all teenagers across the country to get ‘fit  for free’ during the upcoming school holidays.

Fitness First clubs across the country will open their doors free of charge to all those aged between 14 and 18 years throughout the Easter school holidays, inviting them to take part in FFIT Holidays (Fitness First Initiative for Teens), with no membership necessary.

The FFIT Holidays program offers teens a non-intimidating and welcoming introduction to physical activity, fitness and exercise, giving them confidence in becoming more active in their everyday lives.

The free program runs every day over the holidays at all 67 Fitness First clubs, and welcomes all teens to come in and familiarise themselves with a variety of group exercise classes, fitness innovations and gym equipment, and learn to have fun with fitness in a supported environment.

Fitness First National Fitness Manager, Michael Cunico, said helping teens, especially young women, feel comfortable in their approach to exercise, and teaching them the value of being active every day early on is the key to brighter, fitter futures.

Cunico explained “now, more than ever before, young Australians are less and less active, and are reluctant to integrate activity into their everyday lives.

“We need to encourage teens to develop healthy lifestyle habits from a young age – exercising stimulates happiness, energy, confidence and focus which are so important – and what better opportunity than to get involved for free.

“We want to teach kids to make fitness a priority so that they can harness the positive benefits and go further in all areas of life.”

Participating students are set to be engaged through a number of new classes and the latest fitness innovations on offer, from Freestyle Group Training and Pro Cycling, to some of the old favourites such as Zumba and Body Balance.

The FFIT Holidays program offers:

• The opportunity for students aged between 14 and 18 years the opportunity to work out at any of the 67 Fitness First Clubs across Australia during the school holidays for free, with no membership required
• A 20-minute induction on club protocols and on how to use the equipment safely (only those aged 16+ are permitted to use weights and strength equipment
• A fun, friendly and safe environment to learn about fitness and good health
• Fitness experts on hand to provide assistance and advice.

Teens interested in taking part in the FFIT Holidays program can call or visit their local Fitness First club to book their induction appointment.
