Fitness Australia announces first round of Grant recipients
12 fitness providers have been successful in receiving a $5,000 Start-up Grant to deliver Lift for Life®, a progressive resistance strength training program designed to assist with the self-management of type 2 diabetes and other chronic conditions.
The Fitness Australia Grants are part of the Australian Government's Healthy Communities Initiative that aims to deliver effective community-based physical activity and healthy eating programs into disadvantaged Local Government Areas, as well as developing a range of local policies that support healthy lifestyle behaviours.
Fitness Australia Chief Executive Lauretta Stace explains "the Grant recipients will play a vital role in improving the health of their communities. They demonstrate significant community links and are committed to working with the target groups including people with disabilities, mental health issues, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, homeless, unemployed and refugees."
