Fast expanding Camden plans multi million dollar sport and recreation projects
Camden Council is to meet the leisure needs of its fast growing population with plans to spend more than $180 million on capital works, including major sport and recreation projects, in its proposed 2017/18 budget.
Camden Liberal Mayor Lara Symkowiak said she was excited to see new modern facilities brought to the region, telling the Macarthur Chronicle “sport and recreation is a huge winner in the proposed budget,” she said.
“It is exciting to bring two new youth facilities, two water play parks, a $700,000 upgrade to Camden’s BMX track and the first stage of the Ferguson’s Land cricket facility.”
Among key budget items, more than $37 million has been allocated to the Oran Park Leisure Centre due for completion in 2019/20; two water play facilities worth $2.7 million are expected to be constructed in Elderslie and Oran Park in 2018/19 and close to $700,000 worth of upgrades have been allocated to the recreation BMX track in Camden.
An additional $300,000 has allocated to mowing costs in the Council’s parks and reserves.
$37 million worth of sport and recreational facilities are also due to be completed in the next 12 months including Mount Annan Leisure Centre upgrades, Narellan Sporting Hub (Stage 1) and Oran Park Library.
Located in outer south western Sydney, Camden Council is one of NSW’s fastest growing municipal areas.
