fabALICE Festival to mark 30th anniversary of ‘The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’

fabALICE Festival, supported by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC), is returning to the Red Centre from 7th-10th March 2024 – with the event marking the 30th anniversary of the widely acclaimed film ‘The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’, in which two drag queens and a transgender woman journey from Sydney to Alice Springs in an old bus named Priscilla.

Events and activations across Alice Springs will pay homage to the cult film with attendees encouraged to find their inner Priscilla and dress bold, glitzy and bright.

NTMEC Chief Executive Suzana Bishop notes “The Northern Territory is a diverse place and celebrating what makes us different brings people together. fabALICE shines a light on the LGBTIQA+ community and promotes understanding and inclusivity.

“fabALICE is a great example of an event that combines the uniqueness of the Territory with an iconic theme. Organisers have worked closely with NTMEC to find creative ways to enhance and grow the event, generating more impact for the destination.”

fabALICE Festival board chair Stuart Ord adds “The FabALICE committee and dedicated volunteers have been working tirelessly to put together a festival that includes something for everyone and will attract visitors from across Australia to the biggest Pride after-party in the desert.”

Ticketed events include a Comedy and Cabaret show with Rhonda Burchmore and Geraldine Hickey, the famous Priscilla Under Lights Gala with headline act Electric Fields and the ever-popular Drag Queen Bingo, hosted by Party Passport. Free family-friendly events include Drag Queen Storytime and Singalong.

NTMEC supports around 60 to 70 events through the Event Funding Program and provides event organisers with strategy and industry advice.

The festival is a great example of the diversity and uniqueness of the Northern Territory and the events that take place here, many of which help travellers celebrate their interests while discovering a new destination. They also attract people from across the country and help cement destinations such as Alice Springs as must-visit locations.
