Exercise and Sports Science Australia welcomes Labor’s Federal Election win
Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) has today congratulated the Australian Labor Party on its victory in the Federal election, advising that it “welcomes the opportunity to work together on delivering meaningful health care outcomes for all Australians.”
In announcing its support for the returned Federal Government it noted that its priorities remain clear:
Reforming the GST treatment of Exercise Physiology
Embedding more Accredited Exercise Physiologists in mental health care
Implementing a Healthy Living Voucher to tackle chronic disease
ESSA Chief Executive, Danielle Smith stated, “Australia is at a crossroads in health care affordability, accessibility, and funding sustainability.
“Preventive health must play a larger role in our system, and we look forward to continuing our discussions with Government to make that a reality.”
ESSA’s statement advised it remains committed to driving greater equity and effectiveness in Australia’s health care system, explaining “we will continue to focus on addressing the current inequity in the application of GST to Exercise Physiology services. The GST was never intended to apply to essential health care, and ESSA will continue to advocate strongly for this important reform in the new Parliament.”
