Eugenie Buckley to lead Netball Queensland as new Chair

Netball Queensland has announced that accomplished sports administrator Eugenie Buckley has taken on the role of the new Chair of its Board.

Buckley fills the vacancy left by Jane Seawright, following her recent appointment to the Netball Australia Board, and has been immediately endorsed by her fellow Directors to assume the role of Chair.

The current Managing Director of Suiko Consulting has enjoyed a decorated career in sports administration, both in Australia and abroad, with former roles including Chief Executive of the 2009 ICC Women’s World Cup, Chief Operating Officer of Queensland Rugby Union, Chief Executive of the Brisbane Roar and, most recently, the Head of Commercial and Strategy for Global Rapid Rugby.

Buckley has also lent her significant expertise to a series of Netball Queensland’s recent strategic planning initiatives and believes it is an exciting time to take on the challenge of leading the sport in Queensland as its new Chair.

Commenting on her new role, Buckley stated “I’m honoured by the opportunity to drive the strategic direction of netball in Queensland through this next phase of its journey, with the next few years representing a genuine platform to change the game, for both netball and women’s sport more broadly.

“Our game has a proud history of setting the standard by which others are measured, but with the advancement in women’s sport in recent years and growing market share, we have an obligation to continue to lead and innovate for our industry.”

“With the world’s best netball league coming to Queensland and the eyes of the women’s sporting community firmly fixed on our home Nissan Arena in the coming months, now is the time to step it up and build a legacy for netball in Queensland that will last generations.”

Netball Queensland Chief Executive, Catherine Clark said Buckley’s appointment was a game changer for the sport in Queensland, adding “Eugenie is one of the best strategic sporting minds in the country and I am both excited and motivated by the potential of what she can do for our game

“Her achievements and experience see her eminently qualified to not only fill this role, but ensure our sport is given every possible opportunity to fulfill our vision of transforming lives through netball.”

Buckley will commence her role immediately following a meeting of the Board this morning.
