Conference to engage women in sport management and participation

Leading sport governing bodies the AFL, Cricket Australia, Football Federation Australia and Netball Australia have joined the Melbourne Cricket Club and event host the Melbourne Cricket Ground in backing the inaugural Asia Pacific World Sport and Women Conference 2012.

The two day conference is aimed at anyone in the business of sport who wants to know 'why' and 'how' to attract, engage, recruit and retain more women, both on and off the field - from grassroots participation and international representation to the boardroom and stadia across the Asia Pacific Region and beyond.

The conference having the objective to help the business of sport to influence the key drivers of sport, conference organiser Patrizia Torelli explains that the event aims to transform the current sporting landscape, which "is all about money, members, marketing, media and men, (now) it makes sense to activate the future of sport."

The conference includes a number of exclusive networking opportunities that will draw on the experience of industry leaders from sports as diverse as cricket, AFL, touch rugby, bowls and netball, to get more women involved in the business of sport.

The nine Australian Member Federations of the Football Federation Australia are backing rhe conference based on their work to jointly promote and increase involvement and participation.

A statement from Football NSW explained "central to the development of football in Australia is the importance of educating, supporting and servicing football participation through, among others, women's football."

In their endorsement of the conference, the Member Federations have stated "this conference will present an opportunity for all stakeholders to develop a clear and workable strategy to increase female involvement and participation in all areas of sport with a particular focus on football."

Australian and International speakers and practitioners will show delegates how to increase participation, grow commercially viable operating targets and ensure the 'buy in' of this valuable target audience.

The Asia Pacific World Sport and Women Conference 2012 is being held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th October 2012, with a social function on the evening of Sunday 7th October.
