Ellenbrook Southern Playing Fields and Pavilion get official opening
The City of Swan has celebrated the official opening of the Ellenbrook Pavilion and Synthetic Playing Fields.
The largest synthetic sports field development in the Southern Hemisphere development, the Southern Playing Fields project has delivered four full-size FIFA 1 Star rated pitches along with a Pavilion housing eight change rooms, sporting storage facilities and a kiosk as well as a function and meeting spaces.
Opened last month, the ground is home to the Ellenbrook United Football Club and will also be used by local rugby and lacrosse teams.
Commenting on the project, which was backed by $2 million from the Western Australian Government's Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF), Western Australian Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies stated “the opening sees the completion of a major piece in the larger Ellenbrook District Open Space project.”
The playing fields are the second synthetic rectangular facility to be installed in Western Australia, after Mills Park in the City of Gosnells.
For the wider Ellenbrook precinct development, the City of Swan has received $4.54 million through the CSRFF.
Minister Davies spoke of the many benefits the new facilities and areas will have for the region, adding “the opening sees the completion of a major piece in the larger Ellenbrook District Open Space project.
"This space offers another opportunity for sport and recreation lovers in Ellenbrook and surrounding areas to get out and be active close to home."
