Digital mobile radios to safeguard Melbourne F1 race circuit

Simoco will once again be providing digital mobile radio (DMR) equipment at the upcoming Australian Grand Prix, taking place on Melbourne’s Albert Park street circuit from 12th to 15th March.

Helping to ensure the safety of drivers, spectators and staff, Simoco will equip the event with its Simoco Xd solution and offer on-site technical support throughout the duration of the event.

The technology supplied includes 490 portable radios to the race control, marshal, operations teams and other key contractors and suppliers required at the event. 20 mobile radios will also be supplied to the race control office and for a range of vehicles including medical, security, chase and safety cars. In addition, 10 digital base stations and a number of accessories including noise canceling headsets, remote speaker mics and earpieces will be provided.

The equipment will be used by the Australian Grand Prix Corporation staff and more than 1,000 contractors involved in the race.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation Engineering Manager Craig Moca explains “we have a long-standing relationship with Simoco and year after year we benefit from reliable and efficient radio communications technology.

 “The fact that Simoco provides a rental radio solution means that our organizers and contractors can access high quality communications equipment on a short term basis. “Furthermore, its permanent base in Victoria means we benefit from local manufacturer support.”

Simoco Australasia General Manager Robert Meachem added “every public venue is different from the next, and it is often a complex space run by varied groups of users that require robust and reliable communications across an entire site.

“Formula One is no exception and its number one priority is for the drivers, visitors and staff to be kept safe and informed throughout the event.”

Simoco also reported an increase in demand for its rental services with deployments at a number of sporting tournaments, including the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
