Queensland children to benefit from $1.87 million Nature Play funding
More Queensland children will have opportunities to play and learn in the natural environment, with the Queensland Government announcing a new three year commitment to an initiative which encourages youngsters to spend more time playing outdoors embracing nature.
The Queensland Government is to continue to support Nature Play, with funding of $1.87 million committed over the next three years to help the initiative grow.
Announcing the additional funding, Queensland Minister for Sport Mick de Brenni stated “Nature Play is all about the idea that unstructured play outdoors is fundamental to a full and healthy childhood.
“I have some wonderful memories of getting outdoors and spending time in Queensland’s amazing natural environment as a child, and it’s something that’s important for me to pass on to my children.
“So I am very proud to be part of a government which has committed to promoting the role of outdoor play and the work that Nature Play Queensland has done to encourage families in spending more time outside.
“Queensland is home to some of the most beautiful outdoor locations in Australia and this is a perfect program to encourage families and kids to get outside and enjoy them.
“The best part of Nature Play is the simplicity of it.
“It’s accessible to everyone, is fun and helps parents find ways to keep their children occupied through basic activities such as climbing, running and walking—from the humble backyard to our national parks.
“As a government we want to see more Queenslanders, particularly our kids, getting active and developing a lifelong passion for active recreation.”
