Designs released for new Gympie aquatic facility

Designs for Gympie's planned $20 million aquatic facility have gone on public display – showing a state-of-the-art facility that Gympie Regional Council hopes will boost the region's attractiveness as a family-friendly destination.

The ‘shovel ready’ project, which currently awaits Federal and Queensland Government funds will be developed at the old council depot on the corner of Gympie’s Tozer Park Road.

Erroneously described in some media reports as a 'waterpark', the centre’s design includes a 50 metre outdoor competition pool, a heated 25 metre indoor pool, splash pad, water slide, barbecue area, swimming club facilities and grandstand.

The concept, designed by Queensland architects Liquid Blu A+R, also allows for a future hydrotherapy pool on the site.

Gympie Regional Council is currentlt analysing the results of a public poll which asked people to vote on their preferred name for the park.

The options given were: Splash Gympie, Gympie Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Gympie Aqua Port (GAP), Gympie Aqua Zone (GAZ), Gympie Leisure and Aquatic Park (LAP), Gympie Regional Aquatic Centre (RACE), Aquatic and Recreation Centre (ARC).
