Design commences on Geelong Northern ARC hub
Design work on the $61.6 million Northern ARC Health and Wellbeing Hub is set to begin after the City of Greater Geelong announced that dwp Australia Pty Ltd has been awarded the tender for phase one of the project.
Awarding the design tender is the next step in transforming the Waterworld site in the Geelong suburb of Norlane into a state-of-the-art wellness and preventative health precinct.
With the Victorian Government to construct the new Barwon Health North facility on the same site, once complete, the Northern ARC Health and Wellbeing Hub will help improve the health outcomes of residents in Geelong’s north with state-of-the-art facilities, including a:
• 25 metre pool, hydrotherapy pool, leisure pool and learn-to-swim programs
• Spa, sauna and steam room
• Gym and group exercise
• Café
• Multi-purpose community spaces
• Consulting suites (for maternal and child health)
• Occasional child care
The Council has committed $20.6 million, and is seeking funding from the Victorian and Federal Governments to complete the project.
dwp Australia Pty Ltd have extensive experience in the delivery of aquatic and recreation facilities, and in designing environmentally sensitive buildings to a five star Green Star standard.
Commenting on the project, Geelong Mayor Bruce Harwood stated “the Northern ARC development is critical for Geelong’s northern suburbs, and indeed for the whole of our region. Council has made a big financial commitment, but we can’t achieve this community outcome without funding from other levels of Government.”
