Decathlon launches its inaugural Australian fitness studio in Sydney
Sports retailer Decathlon has launched a month-long series of 'affordable fitness' classes, including Puppy Pilates and complementary Lagree sessions, at its first-ever Australian fitness studio, located within the newly opened Wynyard store in Sydney’s CBD.
Decathlon will host two Puppy Pilates sessions at the 220 square metre Wynyard studio on Saturday, 17th May at 10.00am and 12.00pm. Tickets for puppy pilates will be available via Decathlon's Eventbrite from 5.30pm 9th May for just $25 with all proceeds going to the RSPCA.
Throughout May, in collaboration with local experts, Decathlon will also offer a variety of classes, including complementary Lagree Microformer sessions every Thursday, yoga classes on Tuesday, and mat pilates classes during the week, starting from just $15.
Paul Montoy Soler, Area Manager Connect Stores, at Decathlon Australia enthused "we’re thrilled to introduce our first studio in Australia, offering a one-stop destination for affordable fitness classes and sports essentials, making active living more accessible for Sydney’s CBD.
"Our Wynyard studio has been designed to be inclusive, welcoming all fitness levels from first-timers to seasoned enthusiasts.
"Located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, it’s not about competing with high-end, Instagrammable studios - it's about breaking down barriers and making sport and movement more attainable for Sydneysiders.”
Suzie Constantino from Lagree On The Road, shared “Lagree delivers a high-intensity, low-impact workout, similar to reformer Pilates. Seamlessly integrating strength training, cardio, endurance, core activation, and flexibility into a single, efficient session.”
Montoy Soler added "fitness, including Pilates, has become our leading sports category in Sydney’s CBD, with year-on-year growth in gear sales across our Connect stores - highlighting the sport’s continued rise in popularity.
"In response to this strong demand, we felt it was only fitting to launch our new fitness studio with a series of Pilates-inspired classes - headlined by two Puppy Pilates sessions that blend the physical benefits of movement with the uplifting experience of interacting with puppies.”
Neave Welch, Puppy Pilates Instructor at Decathlon’s Fitness Studio, noted “Pilates is a versatile practice that welcomes everyone, regardless of experience level. It strengthens and tones the core, improves flexibility and posture, and supports overall physical conditioning.
"Beyond the physical benefits, Pilates plays a key role in injury prevention and rehabilitation and promotes relaxation and stress management through controlled breathing and mindful movement. Pilates is where shaking muscles, deep breaths and poses create magic on the mat and killer abs! It never disappoints."
Partnering with Decathlon, Victor Nguyen, co-founder of Doga Sydney, concluded “animals can have a powerful calming effect on humans. Some research shows that petting a dog can even lower cortisol, raise oxytocin levels and reduce blood pressure.
"Integrating puppies into Pilates combines these therapeutic effects with physical movement, helping to reduce stress, boost motivation and create a more relaxed, emotionally supportive fitness environment. And it’s not just beneficial for humans! These classes also provide a safe, positive environment for puppies to socialise with each other and get used to building confidence around humans before heading to their forever homes.”
With limited spots available for studio classes, Sydneysiders are encouraged to book early through Decathlon Australia Events & Tickets to secure their spot.
Fitness Classes are held at the Decathlon Wynyard Studio located on Level 2 within the Decathlon Connect - Wynyard store (327-329 George St, Sydney NSW 2000).
