Darwin's Fitness Works expands with Time Out acquisitions
Darwin-based gym group Fitness Works is to double its number of sites with the acquisition of the Time Out City and Cullen Bay clubs.
Fitness Works owner Churyl Scheppard, a 21-year veteran of the fitness industry, will operate the Time Out with her son Seann.
She told the NT News “I think Time Out needs some love.
“This is huge growth for Fitness Works. With all the 24/7 gyms we can now offer more than other gyms in town.
“Members will be able to workout at any of the four gyms we have. We will still offer the public service discounts. We believe the people will be able to get more bang for their dollar. With all four premises we will be able to offer more than 120 group fitness classes.”
As a result of growth as its Nightcliff premises, Fitness Works opened its Alawa location in November last year to handle the excess at its original Nightcliff premises.
With the gyms to eventually be rebranded as Fitness Works, renovations at the City gym are already underway.
Stage one of the changes at the City gym include moving the cardio equipment upstairs, freeing up the ground floor space for a functional fitness room.
Stage two of the changes involves expanding the group fitness room to match the nearly 400 metre² space at Fitness Works Nightcliff.
Churyl Scheppard said equipment for a radically upgraded boxing studio had also been ordered, adding that members will now get soon be able top participate in “functional fitness, group fitness (and) boxing when it comes.”
She continued “we intend to keep our prices competitive. When I look at them they are pretty similar (but) we might adjust them slightly.”
Improvements at the Cullen Bay facility will include new equipment, a sauna and massage room
