Countdown to ARV's 'challenging' conference

Registrations remain open for the 2012 Aquatics and Recreation Victoria annual conference which is set to bring together a diverse and knowledgeable group of industry decision makers.
To be held at The Hotel Windsor in Melbourne on 23rd and 24th August delegates and presenters will include senior executives, directors and managers from local government, aquatic and recreation facilities, commercial organisations and state government departments.
High profile speakers and knowledgeable industry specialists will address:
Health Club Operations New Directions? - An interactive panel session that will canvass current issues and trends around health club operations, competitive influences and how to maximise council retail and merchandising opportunities.
Diversity and Innovative Programs - An interactive panel session that will highlight programs that have been implemented to target specific personal or group outcomes as part of broader health, fitness and wellness programs that seek to cater for the diversity of the local community.
Capital Development Getting it Right - An interactive panel session discussing major community developments and the issues that need to addressed, managed and planned for to ensure that councils get capital development right, without having to re-visit feasibilities, concepts and designs repeatedly, loosing time and increasing costs.
Social Media and Marketing Using it wisely - An interactive panel session that will cover the range of social media platforms, how to pick and choose which are suitable for your operations and needs and how to ensure you use these resources wisely, productively and effectively.
Designing for Local Outcomes - An interactive panel session that will outline the approaches and experiences associated with designing and producing two different council facilities to respond to local requirements and how the principles of universal design can be applied to these projects.
HR Matters - An interactive panel session covering a range of human resource issues including negotiating through EBA requirements, how to manage high performing teams and the Gen Y influence and what comes next.
Understanding current legal considerations that have the potential to impact on your operations and how to handle them - This session will cover a range of current issues that can present potential legal implications and impact of your ability to manage your operations and maintain effective community outcomes.
Carbon Pricing 101 - The carbon tax will impact all aquatic and recreation centres, but what will the impact be? During the session delegates will be introduced to simple tools to understand how energy prices will increase over the next few years. It will also touch on greenhouse emissions and highlight ways other centres are reducing energy bills
A 'Crisis Management' workshop using a real life industry situation will be presented to highlight key learnings for delegates. The workshop will consist of an initial scenario presentation followed by participant role-playing. This valuable workshop will travel through the scenario and provide ongoing advice on how to manage the crisis situations leaving delegates with a significantly better understanding of these situations.
