Community Open Day and Night announced for opening of Sydney's new Allianz Stadium
With the final piece of turf now laid and the last seats in place, the NSW Government has announced that tickets are now available for a free community Open Day and Night on Sunday 28th August at Sydney's new Allianz Stadium, headlined by Australian music stars Guy Sebastian and Baker Boy.
Opening Day, running from 11am-3pm, will see the doors open to the community to explore the venue’s many new features for the first time, including a behind-the-scenes tour of the change rooms, meeting their favourite Sydney Roosters, Sydney FC and NSW Waratahs players, and an opportunity to have a kick on the new world-class playing surface.
Opening Night will kick off from 5pm, with dancers, light shows, large-scale projections and pyrotechnics, headlined by live performances from Australian music icons Guy Sebastian and Baker Boy.
Looking forward to the opening of the venue, NSW Minister for Tourism and Sport, Stuart Ayres stated “this state-of-the-art venue has the best community and player facilities in the country and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it during our unmissable Open Day and Night.
“I know it’s been a long time coming for fans, but I know as soon as they step inside, they’ll see the wait was worth it.
“Fans won’t just enjoy being closer to the action they’ll also enjoy a 360-degree open concourse inside and outside the venue, steep seating angles providing an unforgettable event-day experience, better accessibility and the very best in-stadium Merivale food and beverage offering.”
Minister Ayres was joined today at the Stadium unveiling by Indigenous artist Tony Albert, who was the artistic force behind the new stadium’s seat design.
The seat design is one of six artworks that make up the new stadium’s public art program of art installations and recreational facilities that feature in the precinct, which can be seen during the community open day.
The community can secure up to six free tickets per transaction to Opening Day (11am-3pm) and/or Opening Night (5pm-9pm). Tickets, which include public transport to and from the venue, can be secured from 12pm Tuesday 2 August via Ticketek.
Following the free community event the stadium will host three major sporting events across five days when it opens on 2nd September, with the first match to be an NRL’s clash the Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The Wallabies will then take on the reigning Rugby World Cup winners South Africa on Saturday, 3rd September followed by the Matildas will host Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medal winners Canada on Tuesday 6th September in an international football friendly.
