Coffs Harbour's Big Banana lodges plan for new toboggan ride

The further development of The Big Banana, which is currently seeing the completion of the latest stage of its waterpark, has seen the operators of the Coffs Harbour's attraction lodge plans for the development of an Alpine Coaster toboggan ride with Coffs Harbour City Council.

Set to run on a track close to The Big Banana's existing toboggan ride, the $3 million ride will operate on an 872-metre long steel track and be able to host as many as 50 guests per run.

As reported by The Coffs Coast Advocate, the project will see the demolition of an old shed and the disused monorail track, along with the removal of some vegetation while key elements of the development application include the construction of a terminal and storage shed building, a winch system and pedestrian access ramps.

To be supplied by leading German ride manufacturer Josef Wiegand, the Alpine Coaster will feature 34 toboggan carts.

The latest part of a $50 million long-term masterplan for The Big Banana, a development application for the new ride was lodged with Council earlier this month

Last year, the Council approved a plan for 40 new cabins, allowing for on-site accommodation at the amusement park.

Other Josef Wiegand toboggan rides are at NSW attractions Jamberoo Action Park and Toboggan Hill Park in Nelson Bay as well as Funfields in Victoria.
