Construction commences at The Big Banana waterpark

After years of planning, work is underway on the much anticipated Big Banana Water Park.

With the recent delivery of fibreglass components for the attraction's new waterslides, work on the $1.6 million development will soon see the popular Coffs Harbour 'big thing' enhanced with the addition of the a "heart stopping" kamikaze slide, a raft tube ride and an aqua play area for the youngsters.

Set for completion by October, the park will also see the revival of a much-missed local attraction - the aqua jet.

Big Banana General Manager Michael Lockman explained "this project has been our vision for many years now and it's very exciting to see the first shipment of equipment arrive."

With waterslides from Polin Waterparks, construction is being undertaken by Coffs Harbour-based Swimplex Aquatics.

Coffs Harbour State MP Andrew Fraser, has also welcomed the arrival of the components for two of the waterslides, adding "ever since the closure of the AquaJet in 2005 the Coffs Harbour community has been eagerly awaiting the re-establishment of a waterslide.

“I believe this addition to the Big Banana complex will be a great tourist attraction for the Coffs Harbour electorate in fact it will be more than just a waterslide, it will be a waterpark, which will rival other waterparks around Australia.

Swimplex Aquatics Project Manager Daniel Leaver explained how the project is a very rewarding one and how he was pleased to see the return of a waterslide in our home town.

Leaver stated "this is not your usual regional waterslide package either, this is theme park territory.

"The Big Banana Water Park will rival the likes of Wet'n'Wild and Dreamworld and we are proud to be delivering this project as Coffs Harbour locals.

“We can’t wait to share this great new waterpark with the people of Coffs Harbour and the busloads of tourists that it will bring to our great town."

When complere, the project will include four waterslides running from a 14 metre high platform and a children's Aqua Play area complete with Tipping Bucket, water play toys, interactive water jet zone and four junior slides.

The project has been backed by a $500,000 grant from the NSW Government's Regional Visitor Economy Fund has helped make the dream a reality.
