‘RESPECT: Shaping Events for Success’ – Six Key Trends
Trend 1: A curated event experience
Immersive experiences are in demand and are unmatched by any other channel, such as SXSW Sydney, food and beverage focused events or the inclusion of First Nations cultural ceremonies as seen at the International Council on Monuments and Sites General Assembly.
Trend 2: Socially impactful events
Event engagement is filtered through the lens of environmental impact, sustainability and social contribution, as delegates seek to add value to their community through their attendance.
Trend 3: A sustainable means of gathering
Increasingly, individuals align themselves with organisations that are socially responsible, and have expectations for events to incorporate sustainability in an authentic way, without ‘green washing’.
Trend 4: Prioritising health and wellbeing
Attendees expect events to be held in a welcoming environment catering to their seen and unseen needs, while making events safe and enjoyable.
Trend 5: Promoting human connection
After a period of being forced to spend time apart, the role events play in facilitating face-to-face connection is more important than ever.
Trend 6: A seamless integration of technology
Attendees have an appetite for further technological innovations at events across ticket sales, the sign in process and technologically immersive experiences. There is a move towards further integration of virtual and augmented reality, AI and multi-location event experiences.
Social Researcher and Demographer, Mark McCrindle said the local results had the potential to shape future global trends and added “Australians have returned to events with fresh expectations. Our quickly evolving society, culture, environment and technology are shaping their outlook and sentiment. In particular, Gen Z seeks to engage with events in new and immersive ways that prioritise human connection and social impact – all these elements are already supported at ICC Sydney every day."
ICC Sydney Director of Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability, Samantha Glass said the venue team’s respectful business initiatives were reflective of international market sentiment.
Glass shared“Respect is at the core of how we interact with each other, the way we conduct business and relate to the world around us. Through the research combined with our team’s insights, organisers can create immersive experiences for all generations, in an inclusive event environment, where opportunities to maintain delegate wellbeing is prioritised.
“Events can be sustainable, respectful and inclusive of local cultural experiences — all seamlessly integrated through high tech solutions.
“Events practising RESPECT, create a welcoming experience for people of all abilities, cultures and identities — while protecting the planet — allowing our People and our Places to flourish."
