ICC Sydney Human Resources Business Partner named national ‘rising star’

International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) Business Partner, Ashleigh Vassallo, was named as the 2023 Australian HR Rising Star of the Year at the recently held Australian Human Resources (HR) Awards.

Vassallo delivers programs for ICC Sydney that foster team members’ career development, progression, wellbeing and safety.

The Australian HR Awards event is the most prestigious human resources awards program in Australia recognising best practice, passion, creativity, and those who are making a difference to their organisations

The announcement underscores ICC Sydney’s focus on being an employer of choice by acknowledging the positive people and culture programs delivered by Vassallo that support team member success and sit at the centre of ICC Sydney’s multi-disciplinary workplace.

ICC Sydney Chief Executive and Group Director – Convention Centres, ASM Global (APAC), Geoff Donaghy praised Vassallo for the programs that she had been integral in delivering and noted “our people remain at the heart of our business and underpin the success we deliver for our clients every day. We are immensely proud to have a highly effective, rising star business partner in Ashleigh who is as committed to our people’s growth and development as her own – helping to set them up for successful careers.

“Ashleigh has demonstrated strength in contributing to our people strategy by partnering with the business to deliver increased levels of recruitment and implementing new projects addressing the ongoing changes in the industrial relations landscape. It is terrific to see her recognised as the nation’s best up and coming HR professional.”

ICC Sydney Director of Human Resources, Luke Fleming said he was exceptionally proud of Vassallo’s contribution to the Human Resources team and the broader ICC Sydney workforce and culture to date.

Fleming added “Since Ashleigh joined our ranks over a year ago, she has lived up to ICC Sydney’s values demonstrating great integrity, creativity and connection as she delivered our human resources programs for our expansive workforce. This national accolade is a testament to Ashleigh’s professionalism in her role as Business Partner and I could not be prouder of her achievement.”

Vassallo said the continuous learning opportunities provided and the commitment to be an employer of choice were evident in her personal success and shared “I am extremely humbled to be recognised in the Australian HR Awards program as the Australian HR Rising Star of the Year. I am especially proud to have this acknowledgement of my contribution in creating a safe, efficient and welcoming work environment for our extraordinary team of professionals.”
