Clarence Valley Council provides updates on aquatic centre and library

Clarence Valley Council has delivered two landmark local projects - the new $18 million Yamba Library and Community Centre and both stages of the $29.5 million Clarence Regional Aquatic Centre.

Each project was supported by NSW and Federal funding enabling the Council to deliver high-quality, community-focused infrastructure while maintaining financial discipline.

Council General Manager, Laura Black stated “Clarence Valley Council’s approach to financial and project risk management is delivering strong results.

“Through robust governance frameworks and a commitment to placing community needs at the heart of every project brief, Council is delivering high-quality, inclusive and future-focused facilities, while ensuring community investment is used effectively and responsibly.”

The Clarence Regional Aquatic Centre has delivered a major upgrade to Grafton’s recreational and sporting infrastructure. Designed for comfort, accessibility and high performance, the centre includes indoor and outdoor aquatic spaces, modern change facilities and meaningful heritage integration, including a tribute to young lives lost in the 1943 Cub Scout tragedy.

Since opening, Council says the centre has been embraced by the community as a year-round destination for recreation, fitness and connection.

Stage 2 of the Aquatic Centre is now underway and set for completion by the end of 2025. This next stage will further enhance the facility with the addition of two exciting new waterslides, creating a vibrant and family-friendly space that adds even more value to this popular precinct.

Meanwhile, the Yamba Library and Community Centre provides a vibrant, modern space that brings together a state-of-the-art library, community hall, gallery and exhibition areas, meeting rooms and accessible amenities. Council says the project was carefully managed from start to finish, with a strong focus on sustainability, inclusion and long-term community value. Recycled materials from the demolition were reused wherever possible, and environmentally sustainable features such as rooftop solar and rainwater harvesting were incorporated into the new build.

Both projects delivered a significant boost to the local economy, with Clarence Valley-based contractors and trades engaged throughout construction, helping to support jobs and keep investment within the region. The strong local involvement in the delivery of these facilities reflects Council’s commitment to supporting the regional economy while creating infrastructure that residents are proud to use.
