City of Canterbury Bankstown reveals concept design for leisure and aquatic centre redevelopment
The City of Canterbury Bankstown in inner western Sydney has shared concept designs for the redevelopment of the Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre.
The design by Williams Ross Architects includes a new indoor 25 metre pool and warm water therapy pool to be built next to the existing outdoor 50 metre pool.
The upgrading of the site, between the Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink and the Cooks River, would also include a sauna, gym, multipurpose rooms, on site café and zero-depth children’s water play area.
The redevelopment of the Centre, which was built in the 1960s, is part of the Council’s Leisure and Aquatic Centres Strategic Plan, which was adopted in August 2019.
The Plan reviewed the condition of all Canterbury-Bankstown’s aquatic centres to make recommendations with the upgrading of the Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre identified as a priority.
Construction is expected to commence in the middle of next year with projected completion by the end of 2023.
