Works completed at redeveloped Ashfield Aquatic Centre
Works have been completed on the $44.7 million Ashfield Aquatic Centre in Sydney’s inner west with members of the public now able to tour the facility in advance of its official opening on Saturday 17th October
Designed by brewster hjorth architects, the redeveloped facility, which is expected to attract 500,000 visitors a year, includes five pools, a Technogym-equipped health and fitness centre, café, creche, spa, sauna plus an extensive range of free weights, machines and equipment.
Services offered will include group fitness classes, mind and body classes, personal training, learn to swim, squads and programs to cater for all ages and fitness levels.
In advance of the official opening, Inner West Council is asking the community to help name nine spaces within the Centre: the Olympic 50 metre pool; the outdoor program pool; outdoor leisure pool and family area; outdoor marshalling area; outdoor grandstand; creche; the group exercise studios and the indoor pool.
The Council suggest that “names could reflect local citizens and sports people who are associated with the pool and the community”.
A panel made up of community representatives - Ashfield Swimming Club, Ashfield District Historical Society, Wests Water Polo Club, Council’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee and a representative of ex-students of swim teacher Warwick Webster - will review the suggestions and prepare a recommendation for the Council.
