Christchurch opts for one-day, one-venue Go Live music festival

The Christchurch music festival - 'Go Live' - is returning in 2021 but will take on a one-day format on Saturday 24th July at the Christchurch Town Hall.

After the inaugural event in 2020, Christchurch City Council Events and Arts Manager Tanya Cokojic notes “last year when we debuted the festival we had a series of live music shows over nine days at different venues around the city. This year 'Go Live' is going to take over one venue, for one music-filled day only.

“In the afternoon there will be informative, interactive sessions for those wanting to make a name for themselves in the music industry, while in the evening the Christchurch Town Hall will reverberate with the sound of live music performances.

“We’ll have the main Hauraki stage and four other stages set up throughout the venue, with performances scheduled throughout the night by upcoming and established musicians.”

Entry to the afternoon’s interactive sessions will be free, but people wishing to attend will need to register.

The first session will be a panel discussion about music production. It will be moderated by Welsh music producer Greg Haver, who is best known for his work with the Manic Street Preachers, Melanie C, Opshop and The Feelers.  Missy, P-Money and Ben Edwards will be the panellists.

The second session will include national agencies like NZ on Air, the NZ Music Commission, APRA, and the NZ Music Managers Forum and will focus on what services and support they can provide budding artists.

The final afternoon event will feature a presentation from Australian-based musician and record producer Tom Larkin, who will talk about his journey with Shihad and his music business portfolio.
