Canberra International Music Festival performs at Kambri

As part of the 2021 Canberra International Music Festival, musicians from across Australia will be performing at Kambri this April and May.

Kambri at ANU is located in Australia's capital city, Canberra. Their strong ties to the local area are reflected in the gifting of the name ‘Kambri’ by elders from the ACT’s four Indigenous communities. The Kambri precinct is known as a hub for innovation and knowledge, while also providing a welcoming space for the greater Canberra community to gather.

The starting point of this year’s ten day event is ‘…the idea of Vienna’, with prominent Indigenous artists from Australia taking centre stage in this project.

The 2021 Festival runs from 29th April to 9th May, with two dates scheduled for Kambri – Thursday 29th April and Friday 7th May.

On 29th April, ANU School of Music students will perform four 30-minute sets from performers including Baran Yildiz, the Jazz/Contemporary choir, instrumental jazz groups and singer-songwriters  at Kambri's picturesque amphitheatre.

Also performing in a tranquil art gallery setting, will be William Barton, a Kalkadunga man, didjeridu player, electric guitarist, and classically trained composer.

Barton will be playing in conjunction with members of the ANU School of Music jazz faculty.

On 7th May, ANU School of Music students will again perform along with DOBBY - a multi-instrumentalist and powerful young voice in the Australian music scene. Straddling hip-hop as well as classical, he is known for bouncing between piano, drums, and drum pads, with his unique signature ‘drapping’ (rapping and drumming at the same time).
