Caravan and camping tourism enjoys strong visitor stays
Australians continue to enjoy caravan and camping holidays with 9.4 million visitor nights spent in a caravan park or commercial camp ground in New South Wales during the year ending 30th June 2008 according to the latest Travel by Australians report released by Tourism Research Australia.
As Merv King, President, Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW (CCIA) explains "results of 9.4 million visitor nights for the year ending June is very encouraging for the caravan and camping industry as it shows that media hype around the cost of petrol and economic pressures has not dissuaded caravanners and campers from travelling.
"Caravan and camping holidays are for those who enjoy five star cabin accommodation through to those who seek the simple pleasures of sleeping under the stars in a camping tent.
"Many caravan and holiday parks are destinations in themselves with many in prime waterfront locations with a range of facilities and activities to suit the entire family such as swimming pools, internet connectivity, jumping pillows and kid's clubs."
Industry research also found that an estimated 80,000 caravanners are travelling on an extended tour around Australia at any one time.
