Fitness Australia to seek industry leaders for its Directorships

Industry peak body Fitness Australia is seeking industry leaders to join its Board of Directors.

On its web site, the industry body explains "in any non-profit association, effective governance is vital for the long-term success of the organisation. It is the role of the Board to be leaders in their field, that is, to be forward-thinking, value-oriented and well connected with the constituents that they serve.

"Each year, a number of positions become vacant on the Fitness Australia Board of Directors and, those who are eligible to nominate can be elected to the Board of Directors by their industry peers.

"The Board is Fitness Australia's linkage to industry members and is responsible for providing strategic leadership of the organisation within a framework of prudent and effective controls and establishing the organisation's vision, mission, values and standards of conduct in the interests of industry members, stakeholders and the communities in which it operates.

"The Board is committed to being representative of the broader fitness industry and encourages nominations from all sectors of the industry. Nominees should also meet the following criteria:

• Demonstrated leadership skills;
• Awareness of and alignment with Fitness Australia's strategic direction;
• Alignment with Fitness Australia's organisational values of lead, trust, innovate, connect;
• Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in organisational governance. "

One of the Fitness Australia Board vacancies results from long serving Board member Mark Forrest resigning his place following his departure from Fitness First after 11 years with the company. In that time, Mark spent nine of them serving voluntarily on the Boards of then Fitness NSW Inc and Fitness Australia Limited.

Forrest was Chairman of Fitness NSW, Deputy Chairman of Fitness Australia and on the Fitness Australia Finance & Audit Committee. Mark's extensive business experience at a senior level and a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants provided the Board with a strong and effective strategic business focus. He also made a significant personal contribution to Fitness Australia's Operation MUSIC campaign up until his last day on the job.

Forrest is currently enjoying quality time with his family enjoying some travel before considering his next career move.

Nominations for Fitness Australia's Board positions will open on 25th July with the official nomination form for election to the Board of Directors available from the Fitness Australia website at www.fitness.org.au
