Cairns Regional Council renews PCYC contract at Edmonton Leisure Centre
Queensland PCYC will continue to run youth programs for the next five years at Cairns’ Edmonton Leisure Centre.
Cairns Regional Council has approved a management contract renewal at the centre, which is located on Walker Road, to help deliver various social programs and reintegrate young people back into school.
More than 13,300 people attended youth programs at the centre from April to June this year – a 45% increase on the same period in the previous year.
The PCYC Edmonton branch has operated the leisure centre under a management agreement since 2013.
Council seeks to engage positively with the young people of Cairns through community programs such as the Youth Urban Art Project, Young Mayor’s Program, Young Creatives Program, and youth-focussed activities in the Active Living Program, to name a few.
