PCYC look to operate from Queanbeyan Indoor Sports Centre

Following on from community requests to establish a PCYC in Queanbeyan, Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council has been working with local police and other groups to bring a PCYC to the local government area.

After several presentations and reports to councillors over recent months, Council is working through the final government approvals to enable the PCYC to operate from the Queanbeyan Indoor Sports Centre, expected from July 2021.

At its most recent meeting, Council has agreed to a lease of QISC and establish an operational committee with PCYC. The lease and operations will be placed on exhibition for community feedback this month.

PCYC plan to run youth services, including a drop-in-centre, from QISC and several creative and sporting programs, job training programs and youth at risk programs.

Council will continue to operate the youth council and some complementary art and culture youth programs. Future community uses of the Axis Youth Centre with Queanbeyan Park will be considered later in the year once the PCYC is operational.

This is an exciting expansion to the range and availability of indoor sports and youth programs for Queanbeyan and the broader local area through the in-house and outreach programs offered through PCYC.
