PCYC NSW openings continue with Hornsby facility unveiling
The ongoing opening of new facilities by Police Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC) NSW has seen the non-profit community organisation open the new PCYC Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai.
Sited next to the Waitara Oval, the new $14 million facility features a full gymnastics set-up (including a parkour and tumbling area) two premium indoor sports courts, a state-of-the-art gym and fitness facility, multipurpose rooms, a fully catered cafe and a 90-space car park.
Club Manager Daniel Allars explains “since the club originally opened in June 1968, PCYC Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai has built a proud tradition supporting youth and assisting whole local community, including corporate clients and older residents.”
Allars added that more than 1,000 people had joined the club since the announcement of the facility and there was room for more members, advising “we also have a fully-functional commercial gym with almost 60 hours of group fitness classes a week.”
The new gym is equipped with the latest cardio, strength, pin-loaded and free weights, with gym packages available for all ages and fitness levels, starting with juniors from the age of 14.
With PCYC NSW working with a range of key partners to equip their new generation of facilities, NovoFit provided a one-stop shop for fitness, wellness and functional training equipment within the new facility.
As a key industry supplier partner, NovoFit, formed earlier this year by the merger of respected fitness suppliers Summit Fitness Equipment and The Fitness Generation, equipped PCYC Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai with Star Trac Cardio, Wattbike, Octane Fitness Ellipticals, Concept 2 Rowers, Nautilus Strength, Schwinn Bikes, Torque Tanks and TRX Functional Training equipment.
The gym will be fully supervised by qualified fitness professionals, with a range of group exercise classes also available seven days a week.
Members can also have a free health appraisal/fitness test every eight weeks to keep on track with their health and fitness. Personalised workout programs can be created or members can use established exercise programs, adapted for beginner, intermediate or advanced levels.
Gym Hub Director Steve Grant, who acted as a consultant on the project, advises “our yoga instructor Pamela Sherwin has an advanced diploma in yoga teaching and has completed extensive training in various yoga techniques over many years. She also has a Certificate III in fitness and a Certificate IV in Pilates.”
The multilevel class will focus on ‘movement with the breath” in a Vinyasa (flowing style) of yoga. The aim of the class is on functional movement in order to enhance a person’s ability to move through life with ease and grace. All participants are encouraged to work at their own pace and plenty of individual attention will be offered.
Allars adds “the other thing that makes PCYC unique as a fitness facility is the diverse range of youth sport and performing arts activities, such as futsal, basketball, table tennis, boxing, parkour, judo and sailing, as well as member workshops and seminars such as driver education and key health and wellness topics.”
September has also seen PCYC NSW open the new PCYC Parramatta and announce plans for a $750,000 extension to PCYC Campbelltown.
