Brisbane South Bank Chief Executive Jeff Weigh to step down
The Board of Brisbane’s South Bank Corporation has announced the resignation of Chief Executive Jeff Weigh, who will be stepping down in September 2016.
Announcing his departure, Weigh stated “it has been a privilege to run South Bank Corporation over the past four years and to make a difference
“It is a precinct close to the hearts of all Queenslanders but it is time for me to move on.”
South Bank Corporation Chair Dr Catherin Bull thanked Weigh for his stewardship of South Bank during his four years at the helm, commenting “we would like to thank our outgoing CEO Jeff Weigh for his leadership and commitment over the past four years.
“His achievements have included overseeing the $590 million, three-tower Southpoint project, which is due for completion this year and will include Flight Centre’s global headquarters, an Emporium hotel and apartments.
“The financial position of the Corporation has also been significantly strengthened during Jeff’s term.”
Dr Bull said the Board expects to announce an interim appointment for the role ahead of a formal selection process for the Chief Executive role.
She added “South Bank Parklands is Queensland’s iconic people’s place and a globally-recognised precinct for commerce, events and tourism, so we’re anticipating a hotly-contested recruitment process that is likely to attract interest from across Australia and around the world.”
Dr Bull said over the next 10 years, Brisbane’s CBD would continue to evolve with the development of Queen’s Wharf directly opposite, and the growth of Brisbane as an international destination.
South Bank Corporation is a statutory authority responsible for the planning, development and maintenance of areas encompassing South Bank Parklands, Little Stanley Street, Grey Street, and the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. South Bank welcomes 11 million local and global visitors every year.
