Expanding Bon Leisure appoints General Manager for Western Australia

An increasing number of clients in Perth and enquiries from regional areas of Western Australia has led to Bon Leisure appointing Olivia Birkett as General Manager for its Western Australian operations.

Birkett’s significant experience in sports administration and managing recreation and sporting centres together with her Bachelor of Applied Science, Diploma in Venue Management and Post Graduate Scholar in Biomechanics (Australian Institute of Sport) is seen by Bon Leisure™ Chief Executive Michael Ryle as being of benefit to the consultancy and its clients.

Ryle advised “we are pleased to have Olivia on our senior management team (and) while our clients are growing in Perth, we are getting continual enquiries about our other services.”

These include:

Service Improvement Program, driving better results in aquatic and leisure centres, golf course, libraries and other business with improved business outcomes.

RAMP, an international industry training program for senior facility managers, and

Consulting, covering contractor performance management, planning, facility reviews and facility management services.”

Birkett, who moves from steering the management of the Kwinana Recquatic facility will be supported by two coordinators and 12 other staff on the ground in Perth.

Bon Leisure™ is also offering a hybrid model for aquatic and recreation centre management where it places a management team of one to three to take over centre management and then return it back to full control by council/owners - normally within six to eight months. During this time the staff remain employees of council/city and the management of the centre becomes a collaboration between the council/city and Bon Leisure™.

Ryle adds “we find this works really well as the council/city doesn’t have to lose control of the centre - nor lock in contractors for extended periods, they maintain full ownership and direction of the P&L, whilst getting expert assistance.

“And we always hand the centres back in a better financial position.”
