The Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Charlie Lowles officially turn the first sod at the Councilâs Waite Reserve yesterday, accompanied by representatives from NSW Rugby League Integral Energy Western Sydney Rugby League Academy, Quakers Hill Junior Rugby League Club and Penrith Panthers.
The turning of the sod marks the start of the $2.7 million works at Waite Reserve, transferring the site into a local multi-purpose recreation facility catering for rugby league and sports such as cricket and school sport.
Planned in consultation with the local community and Quakers Hill Junior Rugby League Club, who will be the main users of the fields and have experienced significant growth over the past 10 years, the reserve when complete will feature:
⢠Two international sized playing fields
⢠Two junior playing fields
⢠A cricket pitch
⢠A playground
⢠Amenities building
⢠Car parking and field lighting
"The addition of these sporting facilities is a great boast for sport in Western Sydney, particularly for rugby league", Mayor Lowles explained.
The works at Waite Reserve will be carried out in two stages, with stage one involving the construction of the two international sized rugby league fields, integrated cricket pitch, two junior rugby league fields and amenities building.
"The development of Waite Reserve will not only allow Quakers Hill Junior Rugby League Club to flourish but it will be a great addition to Councilâs suite of high quality sporting facilities and is another example of Councilâs commitment to the development of all sports in Blacktown City."
The $2.7million works at Waite Reserve are expected to be complete in time for the 2011 junior rugby league season.
