Bellarine Aquatic and Sports Centre marks 10 years of operations
The Bellarine Aquatic and Sports Centre (BASC) has celebrated its 10th birthday with games, prizes and family events.
Held on Sunday, children were entertained with face painting, games, pool activities, a jumping castle, mini golf and DJ Ali spinning the beats.
The local facility officially opened its doors for the first time on Sunday 14th December 2008.
Marking the decade of operations, City of Greater Geelong Mayor Bruce Harwood said the birthday party was a great opportunity for families to come along and enjoy the facility, advising "(this is) an important opportunity to take a moment to celebrate the successes of the past decade at the Bellarine Aquatic and Sports Centre.
“BASC has truly established itself as a vital health and social hub for the Bellarine community.
“With 500,000 visits to the centre last year, the programs and facilities are continually proving to be more and more popular and well-used by the Bellarine community.
“While we take a moment to reflect, as council we are always looking to the future as well, and his 10th birthday happens to coincide with the completion of our recent Places and Spaces survey.
“The results from the community-wide survey will now help us to gain some a clarity about how this facility, and others, are used and what the community wants in the future to better suit their needs.
“I look forward to hearing what the Bellarine community have had to say through this survey.”
