Belgravia Leisure releases plan to cut waste, emissions and water use
Belgravia Leisure has rolled out a new five-year sustainability plan, focusing on reducing plastic, emissions, energy use and water waste across the more than 220 community venues that it manages across Australia and New Zealand.
With climate risks and environmental pressures increasing, the plan aims to make sustainable changes at the local level, where communities feel it most.
The plan was shaped by feedback from over 1,100 people including local community members, Belgravia Leisure team members and partners who shared the environmental issues matter most to them.
Running through to 2030, it features the following commitments:
Cutting plastic waste and what ends up in landfill
Lowering greenhouse gas emissions
Using less energy by improving how facilities run
Cutting back on potable water use
Doing better with environmental education, data and certified environmental practices
Every site managed by Belgravia Leisure will have its own action plan based on this bigger picture, with clear goals and ways to measure progress.
As explained by Alexia Morgan, Belgravia Leisure’s Manager - Sustainability and Environment, “this is our third plan like this, but probably our most practical yet.
“People in our communities care about the impact we’re having and so do we. This is about making smarter day-to-day choices that add up and make a real difference in the communities we serve.”
Morgan added “(the) plan, which is aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals, will provide direction to Belgravia Leisure and its venues until 2030.
“Each of our venues under management will have a complimentary environmental management plan with their own objectives and KPI's to support the achievement of this plan.
“Our objectives include, reduce waste to landfill, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce energy consumption and reduce potable water use.”
