Sports Environment Alliance appoints new Chief Executive

The Board of Sports Environment Alliance has appointed Adam Cheyne as its new Chief Executive.

With an extensive background in urban and sports planning, environmental leadership, sport, member organisations, and strategic management, Cheyne is well placed to lead Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) into the next era of sustainable innovation and environmental stewardship across sport.

Among his roles and achievements Cheyne co-founded Urbankind, an urban and sports planning studio that has been instrumental in pioneering sustainable facilities and built environment outcomes for many communities.  He brings a wealth of experience in environmental planning, climate policy, and sustainable development from across Australia.

His qualifications in Town Planning and Sports Management provide a unique blend and complement his experience in leadership roles in NSOs and SSAs, including a decade with Tennis Australia.

Prior to establishing Urbankind, Cheyne was the Executive Officer for Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) Queensland, advocating for parks and recreation sectors, leading the implementation of PLA’s strategic vision, and delivering growth initiatives across a diverse industry sector.

Cheyne is very much looking forward to joining SEA and shared "having been on the SEA journey since its commencement, I am honoured to join SEA and excited to contribute to its mission of leading, educating, and empowering the sports community to take action for a sustainable future."

Cheyne has commenced the handover from SEA’s outgoing Chief Executive Jan Fitzgerald, who finishes on 25th September. Cheyne’s first official day will be Monday 30th September.
