Belgravia Leisure takes on waterpark management at Cairns Sugarworld
Belgravia Leisure is to undertake the management of its first stand-alone waterpark having been appointed by Cairns Regional Council to manage its Sugarworld attraction.
The appointment and 10-year lease will see Belgravia Leisure working closely with the Cairns Regional Council, key stakeholders and the community to enhance the Sugarworld experience for local families and tourists.
Planned improvements to Sugarworld include installing new adventure-style mini golf facilities, refreshing the waterpark’s entrance, updating the food and drink offering and launching a brand new Sugarworld website.
Looking forward to the challenge of running the waterpark, sited in the southern Cairns suburb of Edmonton, Belgravia Leisure Chief Executive Nick Cox commented “we are thrilled to be working with the Council to enhance experiences and increase visitation at Sugarworld, whilst retaining a majority local workforce.
“With over 100 centres across Australia and New Zealand, including Tobruk Memorial Pool in Cairns, we have a breadth of experience in developing exceptional facilities and are committed to delivering a range of improvements for the community to enjoy.”
Cairns Regional Council Sport and Community Services Committee Chair Councillor Cathy Zeiger added “we are pleased to announce this appointment and are confident Belgravia Leisure has the expertise to see Sugarworld Waterpark thrive.
“The Council, stakeholders and community look forward to working with Belgravia Leisure to increase the usage and range of activities available at Sugarworld Waterpark,” says Cr Zeiger.
Belgravia Leisure will officially take over management at Sugarworld Waterpark from 20th February 2017.
The aquatic, fitness and recreation contract managers have operated Cairns’ Tobruk Memorial Pool since its reopening in May this year.
