BCEC bids farewell to 2010
Having celebrated its 15th anniversary this year, the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) is looking forward to 2011.
As General Manager Bob O'Keeffe explains â2011 will see the culmination of many years planning with the opening of the Centreâs boutique expansion, BCEC on Grey Street mid-year, creating Australiaâs most flexible meetings and events venue and offering clients greater choices and more options than ever before.
âThe niche nature and cost effectiveness of our new boutique venue are proving popular with meeting planners, with more than 30 confirmed conventions. Our sales team has taken the Grey Street message interstate with road shows in Sydney and Melbourne as well as back home in Brisbane, with more planned for the New Year.?
In 2010 BCEC was host to 990 events and 625,000 visitors, launching the very first permanent art gallery space in an Australian convention centre, achieving Silver EarthCheck accreditation for its environmental practices and chalking up record results for the Centreâs special events venue, the South Bank River Room.
OâKeeffe was also delighted at âthe selection of our Chefs to represent Australia at the famous Bocuse dâOr International Cooking Competition and winning both international and national awards for our efforts.?
OâKeefe also highlights that âwe finished the year on a happy note hosting a special Christmas lunch for 500 guests from the Salvation Armyâs many wonderful programs which saw our staff volunteering their services.?
BCEC is closed from tomorrow (22nd December), reopening on Monday 11th January 2011. During the closure its IT systems are being upgraded so any emails sent to BCEC during this period will be received when BCEC reopens.
