Medieval sport comes to Kryal Castle
Internationally awarded and recognized Jousting Champion, Justin Holland and his team are set to become one of the star attractions at the new Kryal Castle, just outside of Ballarat.
Having performed all over the world in countries including Belgium, France, United Kingdom, New Zealand and all over Australia, Holland, will join the new team at Kryal Castle as they prepare for the re-launch and will be tasked with management and training of an exciting, physically fit and entertaining team of 'Castle Knights'.
Scheduled to reopen later this year, after a multi-million dollar face lift, the Castle will be an impressive regional tourist attraction. 'A land of myth, magic and medieval adventure' based around myths, legends, wizards, enchantment, chivalry and dragons.
Holland explained "I am really thrilled about this opportunity and am looking forward to making Kryal Castle the home of jousting in Australia. I can't wait to see the crowds at Castle, coming to see the timber fly."
Jousting spectacles at the Castle will be part of the new colourful and entertaining arena shows and performances and a highlight for all who visit the castle. Visitors will be able to join in the action, by 'choosing their champions and cheering' in the hope that their Knight of choice will be triumphant.
When Justin has the 'Castle Knights' ready for their daily performances at the end of the year, Kryal Castle will be the only venue in Australia holding regular jousting spectaculars.
A joust is a challenge between mounted knights, using lances and wearing impressive armour and was a favoured form of entertainment during the Middle Ages. Jousting challenges took place at medieval tournaments to the delight and amusement of crowds of onlookers.
They were exciting and colourful displays of pomp and pageantry - just as they will be when they are returned to Kryal Castle as a major show piece of a full day's entertainment at the adventure park.
Kryal Castle spokesperson Erin Joyce states "we are extremely excited about the total entertainment package being put together. Visitors will see live and adrenalin fuelled jousting performances by the 'Castle Knights', experience high quality sound, light and special effects walk through attractions, get caught up in the magic, stories and mystery of the towers and maze.... and that is only part of it."
In the coming weeks, and in time for the upcoming parties and functions season, the fully refurbished and newly named 'Tyrants Tavern' will reopen at the Castle; catering for weddings, functions, end of year parties and conferences. The Knights Round TableChamber function space will be ready shortly after.
